Movie with dragon/serpent in it?

I have only the vaguest memory when I was a kid watching a movie with
a giant robotic/metallic dragon or serpent talking to a young boy or
man. At the end I believe this creatures flies off into the sunset. I
have been searching yahoo answers but I cannot get the right movie. I
was very young when i saw it so I can safely say the movie was made
before 1996, and is non-animated.

I have checked and the movie is not Dragon Heart 1 or 2, Neverending
Story, Dragon World, reign of fire, dungens and dragons, dragonslayer,
petes dragon, flight of the dragons, of the winged serpent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been driving my crazy
for years.
